Tips to Tie Down an ATV
If you plan to take your ATV off your property, you need to know how to load and tie it down properly. Imagine your beloved ATV coming loose off a trailer while traveling on a highway, miles away from home. Tying down your ATV is necessary to getting from one place to another safely. Follow the steps below for the best results on your next trip. At Langston Motorsports in Perris, California, you can learn more about all kinds of motorsports vehicles. Level Loading Area
A level loading area equals a safe loading area. You need to move the trailer if it is sitting on an incline. Check to see if all four tires are fully on the ground and at the same height.
Safe Loading Process
A safe loading process begins with taking out the ramp for loading. You need to ensure that it is hooked to the trailer securely after you take the ramp out. You can secure the ramp using straps so that the structure does not wobble or tip while loading the ATV.
Work slowly but efficiently to load your ATV. First, the ATV should not carry any extra weight. Then you can place it in the lowest gear while in four-wheel drive. The lowest gear will provide enough power to load the vehicle without it running away from you. Slowly apply pressure to the gas pedal to ease the ATV up the ramp. Remember to put the gear into park once it is in place.
Tighten Straps
At this point, the ATV should be level on the trailer. You are required by law to secure vehicles onto the backs of trailers by tying them down with straps. Grab a couple of ratchet straps. Put one strap through the front frame, avoiding the axle, and hook both ends to the frame of the trailer. Repeat this process several times and tighten the straps enough to hold the ATV in place.
Wrap Dangling Straps
One last step to take when tying down an ATV is to wrap dangling straps. You do not want anything flying around in the air and coming undone in the transportation process.
It is always in your best interest to be as thorough as possible when tying down your ATV.
