ATV Accessories Article from Langston MotorsportsWhile riding your ATV, you might discover that it could stand a tune-up. Just like any other motorized vehicle, your quad needs some attention and care to keep it in good running order and stave off expensive repairs that happen when you don’t address problems immediately. You can actually do many repairs on your own in your shed or garage, given the proper equipment.

Your local four wheeler dealership, Langston Motorsports, has made this list of some vital ATV accessories that will assist you in maintaining your ATV on your own time. If you do need to order parts or get professional service for your quad, we’re located in Perris and our mechanics are just a phone call away.

Tire Pressure Gauge & Air Compressor

Any vehicle with wheels needs its tires to be in good shape. You likely already have a tire pressure gauge in your car’s glove box, but consider getting a second one for your ATV toolkit. Check your tire pressure on all four wheels on at least a weekly basis if you ride your quad often, and make sure it’s up to the standards recommended by the manufacturer. While you do this, look for uneven wear, tears in the sidewalls, low tread depth and embedded objects, all of which will lower your tire’s performance and probably mean it needs replacing.

To quickly inflate your tires on your own time, invest in an air compressor. While pricey, these machines mean you don’t have to drag your quad over to the gas station or mechanic just to air up your tires. You can use your air compressor to air up all your other vehicles’ tires, too, including bicycles, and you’ll find uses for it around the house, whether it’s blowing up balloons for a party or inflating air mattresses for a sleepover. A small air compressor can even be brought with you off-roading so you can fix a flat in no time, provided you’ve also got a tire patch repair kit with you.

Screwdrivers & Wrenches

Any good tool kit needs a full complement of screwdrivers and wrenches in it. You’ll want screwdrivers with ergonomic grips in both flathead and Phillips head styles. Ratcheting screwdrivers can be useful as they get the job done more expediently, but you’ll have to keep track of all the bits.

Wrenches are a particularly important ATV tool. You’re going to need a set of standard and a set of metric wrenches, and they often are sold together which can save you money. You will also want to have allen wrenches on hand as well as an axle wrench. Socket wrenches can be useful when you don’t want to scratch up your quad’s finish, but you need a full set of them.

A breaker bar and a torque wrench should both be in your tool kit so they’re close at hand when you have a frozen fastener that just won’t come loose. Both of these tools provide the necessary leverage to loosen bolts under high amounts of pressure and tighten them back up correctly.

Multimeter

When you’re working on your four wheeler’s electrical system, a multimeter will definitely come in handy. This small device tracks your amperage, voltage and resistance, which can show you where any electrical issues with your ATV might be draining its performance. You can use a multimeter around the house, and it’s very compact and inexpensive, making it a practical purchase.

Mallet

Finally, a mallet, when cautiously applied, can be useful when working on certain parts of your ATV. You should get one with a wooden or urethane head, since these substances are far less likely to damage your quad’s finish or paint.
